In January 2021 our lives were turned upside down when our 11 month old baby boy was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Over the next weeks the hospital became our home as Leon went through countless blood tests and scans, difficult treatments and procedures, and finally, successful surgery to remove his tumour.
Six months later Leon is in remission and on the road to recovery but every day we think back to those dark and heartbreaking days and how fragile life can be. We also know we are extremely lucky that Leon’s cancer was caught at an early enough stage and treatment was available to us. We know this is not the case for all babies and children. This is why we are doing this run.
When we chose the name Leon we didn’t think much about the lion comparisons but these became very meaningful after his diagnosis. We are running not only for our lionhearted boy but for all the other incredibly brave boys and girls, and healthcare professionals, fighting the cancer battle every day.
